ABOUT APPEL DESIGN GROUP 

APPEL DESIGN GROUP, P.A., ARCHITECTS (ADG) was originally founded in 1961 by Burton Appel as a sole proprietorship architectural firm. Under the leadership of Laurance Appel since 1993, the firm has continued to grow in size and has the ability to take on larger and more challenging design projects.

 

The success of the firm is directly attributable to an emphasis on professional service and expertise in creative problem solving. The principals and staff encourage an interactive design process with the client, ensuring a design solution clearly addressing each project’s requirements. ADG is recognized for implementing projects which are both creatively and effectively designed as well as logically constructed. This strength is continually proven by the large number of clients who return to us with repeat commissions as well as recognition with numerous design awards.

Many of our projects have also incorporated “green” (sustainable) design and planning technologies. We are committed to incorporating these energy saving principles and “green” initiatives into many of our projects; both new construction and renovation/alteration projects as well. We are proud to have designed one of the first solar and LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified single family homes registered in the State of New Jersey. Mr. Appel has received the NAHB CGP designation (Certified Green Professional).

 

Our experience with these diverse projects and building types throughout the tri-state area has afforded us the opportunity to develop familiarity and expertise with code and regulatory issues on all levels from local/municipal to state and federal agencies having jurisdiction. In addition to maintaining active registration in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Mr. Appel has received certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) for reciprocal architectural license in any other state. The firm maintains membership with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the National Association of Home Builders, Metropolitan Builders and Remodelers Association of New Jersey and with the International Code Council (ICC). Membership in ICC allows us to closely monitor changes and interpretations of the building code. Mr. Appel has also participated as a member of a code evaluation committee at the NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
